Notification Settings

The Notification settings page (under Configuration) controls school-wide notification behaviour. This is different from your personal notification feed (the bell), which every user manages for themselves.

Lecture reminders

You choose how far ahead lecture reminders are sent. By default, reminders fire roughly an hour before and again shortly before the lecture. You can adjust these lead times to suit your school — for example, add an earlier reminder for evening classes.

Reminders are delivered to teachers and enrolled students through their notification channels.

Assignment notifications

You can toggle whether the school sends notifications related to assignments:

  • New assignment — notifies enrolled students when a teacher posts an assignment.
  • Submission received — notifies course teachers when a student submits.

Turn these on if you want active prompting around coursework, or off to keep the channel quieter.

How this relates to personal preferences

These settings decide whether a given notification is generated and on what schedule. Each individual user still controls which channels (in-app, email, push) they receive on. A user who disables email will not get the email even when the school enables the notification.

Tips

  • Two reminder lead times (a long and a short one) usually work well.
  • If teachers feel overwhelmed by submission alerts in large classes, consider turning "submission received" off and letting them use the grading queue instead.
